Apple Pie Baking Contest

2014 Winner is Melissa Dawson. Congratulations Melissa. Below is Melissa’s award-winning recipe.

Crust
2 cups flour
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup butter
5 tablespoons cold water

Blend all adding water last
Roll out bottom crust
For top use a leaf pastry cutout

Filling
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1 tablespoon corn starch
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
8 apples thinly peeled and sliced
Place all in zip lock bag and shake to evenly coat. Place in fridge
for a few hours. When ready to bake drain juices (you can use juice to
make apple crisp )

Heat oven 425º F

Put apple mixture in prepared crust
Drizzle Maple Syrup over apples
1 tablespoon butter on top
Arrange cut out for top crust

Bake 45 mins
Remove from oven
Brush top crust with corn syrup for a nice shiny glaze sprinkle with
white decoration sugar
Bake another 20 mins
